"A wonderful, kind staff of front desk people"
Reviewed December 29, 2011
We stayed at this Inn last month during the week of 'football fever' because my terminally ill daughter was at a hospital close by. It was a very terrible time in my life. It was made slightly easier by the simple kindnesses shown to us on a daily basis by the front desk staff. There was one young man that was especially kind and helpful to us. He would seem to go out of his way to make our life a wee bit easier. Of you read this, you know who you are and I want you to know that your kind manner was very much appreciated. We will always remember this motel as a place that did actually care! Thank you.

"Decent hotel with friendly staff"

Was here on a business trip. Hotel has a good location, right off the highway, and convenient to public transit into downtown Ann Arbor (Plymouth park and ride). The shopping plaza next door has a good hole-in-the-wall Korean restaurant.
Rooms were fine. Free wi-fi was another plus. Breakfast buffet was basic, but reasonably priced.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I called the reservations told them the dates I needed and made a reservation using points and it was as easy and hassel free as everone would ever hope it would be. I used the points for a friend whos teenager was in a bad auto accident and is at the UoM Hospital and he wants to stay near the hospital to be with his child. Holiday Inn used my points and put his name on the Reservation again with no hassels or issues. Before I even hung up the phone I had an email confirmation on my laptop.
This is the way it is supposed to work! Great job Holiday Inn for getting this right!!!

"Photos and reviews don't do this place justice"
Reviewed December 5, 2011
The rooms were absolutely spotless and the service was AWESOME. We paid $194, which was pretty pricy even on a football weekend, but the service made the money worthwhile. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and there was no smoke small at all (as mentioned in other reviews). The front desk staff really went above and beyond to help us change our room type and make sure we were comfortable. As a family traveling with small children, the spotless rooms and helpful staff make traveling so much easier.
We will stay here again!!!

"Older Holiday Inn Being Redone"
Reviewed November 15, 2011
This is a decent place. It's an older Holiday Inn built around an open courtyard with big trees and an indoor/outdoor pool. The rooms are large and have been recently redone with new carpeting, furnishings, flat-screen TVs, new bath tile wall coverings and fixtures. Only the doors remain to be replaced. The front desk says they will be done by February 2012. Full service restaurant with breakfast buffet (adequate--nothing special). Shuttle service available to U of M hospital and other area attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful.

This is an older property, but the room was very clean. The beds were comfortable and the bedding nice. I arrived early and they were very accommodating, checked me into my room 2 hours before usual check-in time. There was a problem with the desk chair - called the front desk and they switched it out with a new chair within 5 minutes. My only complaint is that the bathroom is tiny - can't sit on the toilet with the door open, no room for legs.

OK hotel, but be aware it hasn't been remodeled for at least 20 or more years. It's clean, with comfortable beds. The AC was noisy (not central). This is called a 3 star hotel b/c of the conference facilities and the pool (very small), but a Holiday Inn Express would be a better choice. No breakfast included, no newspapers in the lobby, or coffee in lobby. Desk staff was friendly and very helpful.

"Friendly desk staff, somewhat dated facilities."
Reviewed July 24, 2011
I have to say that the desk staff was as nice as could be whenever interacting with them. They were friendly and eager to make your stay enjoyable.
On the flip side, while there were some nice facilities (the hair salon and the restaurant), most of the building was pretty dated. It took a hike to get to our rooms past the conference areas where the carpets and couches were looking very worn out. The pool facilities and the entire exterior of the hotel are reminiscent of what hotels looked like in my own childhood.
The room I had was average and was acceptable for my business trip needs. The bathroom was a little cramped, but the shower made used of the curtain extender making the shower feel quite large. My room was quiet except for the air conditioner, which buzzed throughout the night.
We had breakfast twice in the restaurant, we did find gum stuck in the dish of sugar packets. However, the hot breakfast we decent and had a good selection of items.
All in all, a decent hotel, with good service, but needing a more extensive upgrade/refresh.

Stayed here one night for a baseball tournament at EMU. The facility is situated right off the freeway, easy access. Good location to many of the areas attractions.
The staff was Ok, nothing special. The room was nice, bed was comfortable, bathroom was small. The room had a strange smell to it, not nasty, just different. The kids all were using the pool between games, the water was pretty dirty, but I will give them that there were a ton of dirty kids using it all day. Overall not a bad stay, there are other hotels right next door, if I were in the area again may try another one.

There is no better way to pass on the essence of this hotel then by quoting the email that was sent by us to the manager. Pls. read below.
"Hello, Mr. Sefcovic,
In late August, my husband and I traveled to Ann Arbor in order to settle our daughter in at the University for her freshman year. We had a pleasant stay at your hotel, and found most everyone to be friendly and helpful.
But the most outstanding feature of your hotel was evident only after we arrived home in California. At that point, I discovered that I had left behind a small package with some gifts I had purchased in Ann Arbor. I called around to several restaurants and shops, as well as to your housekeeping/lost and found departments. I received a call back from Barbara Zyrkowski, informing me that the package had, indeed, been found! We arranged for her to send it COD, and it arrived the next week. I thought I couldn't be happier, especially when I saw that I had also left behind a pair of slacks, which were included in the package! I must have been very distracted that weekend.
There was a note on the gift bag that reads, "30 of August, 240 (our room #), Lorena Vasquez". I would like to commend both Ms. Vasquez and Ms. Zyrkowski for their honesty and competence. I truly appreciate the return of my lost property. My daughter will be at the University of Michigan for at least the next four years, and you can be sure that we will make every effort to stay at the Holiday Inn at Ann Arbor when we come to visit again.
Gratefully Yours,"

I will stay here again! From the front desk staff, room maids, food staff, all had a great smile and accommodating fully. They arranged taxis, VIP car to the airport and good advice on shopping and area finds. The hotel food service was top notch with wonderful staff. You can't beat the buffet full breakfast too! The room was spotless and all new furnishings to include a flat screen TV. It is close to everything in ANN Arbor - why stay anywhere else! Bravo to the staff!

We stayed in this hotel for a long weekend connected to a business trip. Honestly, we ended up at the HI because our other choices of hotels were booked. We were very surprised to find a clean, but slightly dated Holiday Inn. The rooms were 1980's standard (some are updated, ours was not). The big surprise was the HUGE amount of activity in the bar/restaurant attached to the property. It was slammed both nights. Sat. nights has blues bands (a shout out to the Saints of Soul--very good band). The wait staff and hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. The entire hotel and bar/rest. are non-smoking. NO smoke smell.

I stayed her for six night courtesy of ASM International while I attended a Materials Science "Camp" at the University of Michigan. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. I was gone every day from 8 AM to about 5 PM, and the room was always serviced by then. The hotel offers a shuttle service to locations in Ann Arbor. A plus, since it is away from downtown Ann Arbor. There is a small indoor/outdoor pool and indoor jacuzzi at the hotel, which I didn't use. The hotel is located near many businesses and restaurants, which are within a block or two of the hotel. Behind the hotel is a strip mall (Plymouth Green Mall) with a UPS Store, Busch's Market (a good beer, wine and liquor selection), Quizno's, a Coney/Sandwich shop, a Mediterranean restaurant (the falafel was good!), and a few other businesses. Across the street there is a 24 hour CVS Pharmacy, a a few more restaurants. On the other side of the street about two blocks away is another strip mall with a few restaurants. I ate at Olga's one night. Decent food, decent price. On site was Guy Hollerin's restaurant and bar. I ate the breakfast buffet every morning (courtesy of ASM International, again) and it was OK. Scrambled eggs, sausage links, bacon, hash browns, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, fruit, sweet rolls, cold cereal....it got kind of old after awhile, but it was free. I didn't eat dinner there but I did have a few drinks in the bar. I watched the MLB All-Star game on one of the TVs there. It was reasonably priced for a hotel bar. Overall, this is a decent hotel. Nothing special. Good location if you are needing to do business at U of M, or if want to buy groceries, or walk to a variety of restaurants.

We stayed here for one night due to having an activity planned in downtown Ann Arbor. We booked on Hotwire. Got a great price, then read some not so great reviews about it on Trip Advisor. What I can tell you is that the hotel was a very pleasant surprise. Now that Michigan has gone smoke free, you don't have to be concerned with the smoke smell. Checked in around 6:00 pm on a Friday (holiday weekend May 28) night, which was a breeze. Asked which floor we would prefer and said "top floor". Room was very clean, looked like it had new carpeting in it. Two double beds with ample pillows. Small balcony - - a plus. Small bathrooms, but who really cares. Everything very clean and accommodating. A small fridge would have been a plus. Didn't use the pool facilities... lots of kids, but on this weekend or any weekend, that's to be expected. The only complaint of sorts, would be the elevator. Seemed to take a while to get to the fifth floor (took the stairs going down instead of bothering to wait) as we are able bodied people, however, it did make some weird shaking movements upon leaving or arriving at floors it did stop at. Would definitely stay here again!

Stayed at the hotel for a week for work. It is a standard Holiday Inn in a parking lot with some mall style shops around it. It is in the middle of lots of roads, but can be negotiated without a car. I took the free shuttle every day down to the University, and got the normal bus back - which drops you about 400 meters from the hotel. The hotel is a big generic American style hotel, everything was fine - not great, but fine. There is a small gym with about 4 treadmills, some free weights, and a couple of benches. The pool is in the middle of the hotel, and there were some spring breakers (en route to somewhere I guess) staying there for 1 night - they were in the pool all night and it was noisy. However usually noise was not an issue. The rooms were fine, the staff were incredibly friendly though.

I stayed here on a study trip and found the hotel clean and quiet. The staff at the reception were always pleasant and having the Avis desk in the hotel made it easy to hire a car. The rooms were large and the internet was suprisingly fast. The hotels access to the highways was good and made it easy for an overseas traveller.

I recently traveled to Ann Arbor for surgery and stayed prior to and after at the Holiday Inn. Very nice rooms and very personable service from everyone on staff. Due to complications from surgery, I was re-admitted adn wasn't worried about my wife staying here, or using the shuttle. Everyone was very accomodating with all our needs. Well worth the price, and we got what we paid for. Rooms were clean and quiet.

In all my travels, I always avoided the Holiday Inn chain because of the wildly different levels of quality you would find. A long stint at a Staybridge Suites left me with enough reward points for a one night stay. I decided to use them up (the points), and here is where I used them.
This hotel fits in with other Holiday Inns in that you can't tell from the outside what type of experience you will find inside. I arrived at night (so it was dark), but I didn't have a great impression based on what I could see (when traveling on pleasure with my wife, I like to stay at nicer/cleaner places -- after all, it's supposed to be "pleasure" and fun). Inside, the lobby was much better -- clean, nice, and modern enough. It was Saturday, and they have live blues in the restaurant ($5 cover) that was pouring out into the lobby. That was nice to have some "life" to the hotel. The desk receptionist was dressed in blue jeans and a fleece -- no designation as an employee aside from being behind the desk and appearing to know what he was doing. I would have liked him to be in some sort of a branded uniform, even if it was only an embroidered golf shirt or name tag. He was efficient, very pleasant, and very helpful directing us to our room & some late-night dinner.
Inside the room, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had been recently renovated. Granite in the bathroom, 32" LCD television, newer furniture, newer carpet... in all, I was very impressed. I usually feel like the hotel room is dirty (not just Holiday Inn, but most chains), but I actually did not feel that way here. It was a nice surprise.
My wife forgot her toothbrush -- a quick call down to the front desk yielded an efficient and energetic "we'll send one right up!" before she could even offer to come down for it. In less than five minutes, a friendly gentleman was at our door wielding a toothbrush. Again, I was pleasantly surprised.
We slept in very late and requested a late checkout. No arguement or hesitation was presented by the front desk.
I guess the only criticism I can offer is that my wife said the gym was musty/smelly and not equipped the best.
In all, I would not hesitate to stay here again. Since I stayed here with reward points, I can't comment on the price / value ratio, but it was definitely a nice experience.

We got an incredible price on Hotwire for this place. The hotel is very large and older, so not as many room amenities as newer ones.
It was hard to find an outlet in the room to plug the iron in. It had an iron, ironing board and coffee maker. No fridge.
The WiFi was difficult to pick up.
The room was clean and the bed very comfortable, they will bring you a feather pillow if you want, and I did and it was very nice.
I would highly recommend this place if you can get it under $65 or so we paid $45 and I felt like I got a super deal.
The restaurant was fine we had breakfast which was right there and OK, nothing special but not bad. Service was real good and people nice.
I forgot something at the hotel and called a couple days later and they are sending it to me, so I would say their staff is professional and very good.
I would not say this place is a $100 and up place.
But very close to everything.

This property is a typical 1980's style Holiday Inn. Property is starting to show it's age a little bit, but was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Decent indoor/outdoor pool and spa area. Didn't eat on site as the bar and restaurant share the same area and they still allow smoking in Michigan, so the smell carries throughout. But the night manager did recommend an excellent seafood place, Gandy Dancer, (pricey, but amazing service and good seafood) and the hotel shuttle took us there for free. Elevator was a little small, but didn't really have to wait much for it. Good location if you are doing business at the University, and right off the interstate, so good if passing through.

We loved our stay at this hotel. Staff are courteous and friendly. Our main floor room was very big and had a great King sized bed. We had a patio to a closed in court yard surrounding the indoor/outdoor pool. The amenities at this hotel are excellent. A great place for kids of all ages.
We played golf and great courses are close by, the staff was right on with recommendations and directions. The hotel features a shuttle to get you where your going which is free and is a great service for shopping or dining out.
The hotel restaurant is very good and has a nice bar and outdoor patio with beach volleyball court.
We booked this hotel with 3 other couples and we booked on line through Michigan hotels.com, we got a great rate and everyone in our group loved this hotel.
Located close to highways and only minutes from downtown. I plan on returning to Ann Arbor again and will most definately stay here.

We stayed here for three nights while visiting the University of Michigan. The hotel staff was really helpful and friendly. To our surprise, they gave us generous coupons for the hotel restaurant. The room was very quiet and clean, and the beds were comfortable.
Although the hotel is a few miles from central campus of the University of Michigan, the hotel offers a free shuttle. Also, the #2 Ann Arbor bus stops nearby and takes passengers to the University for $1.

This is an older Holiday Inn that has been maintained pretty well over the years. At check-in the front desk attendant was friendly and professional. The lobby area was fairly nice and clean. I was given a room on the third floor and had what seemed like an endless walk to my room due to the sprawling layout of the hotel. The hallways were clean but dreary with monotone tan carpeting and walls. The room was a bit small but not ridiculously so. The bed was comfortable with high quality linen. There was a flat screen tv also which was nice. The carpeting in the room was similar to the hallways carpeting. It was clean and stain free but obviously older. The bathroom while updated was really small. There is no way you could fit two people in that bathroom. The bathroom was clean. The shower had plenty of hot water but the shower head was old and sounded like a freight train when turned on.
The high speed internet worked throughout my stay but wasn't the fastest connection in the world.
Overall a decent property. You could definately do worse.

I stay here 3-5 times a year, for business and for getaways. I had a king smoking room - Room 345 - which I coincidentally had stayed in before. The bedside phone is still not working from my last stay. The room was adequate, bed comfortable enough, toilet slow to flush.
You may want to call ahead to find out if any kids' hockey camp groups will be staying while you are there. I've encountered it twice. This last time was ok, but the previous time kids were literally running, and screaming around the hotel unattended; things were way out of hand. Some of the parents themselves were partying in the hallways very loudly well into the evening.
Beware, Guy Hollerin's can be a zoo on weekend evenings. The sports bar area can be particularly loud and obnoxious.
Customer/desk service is usually very good. Location is great.
Liked — Location, smoking rooms
Disliked — Screaming unattended children.

My son and I stayed at the hotel while in Ann Arbor for a University of Michigan football game. We were looking for a change of pace from the hotels on the south side of town. The hotel is near the North Campus of U of M. While not quite as convenient to the main part of the U of M campus, it was very easy to get to Main Street Ann Arbor with its restaurants, […] bars and the Kerrytown Farmers Market. There also are a variety of breakfast and lunch options along Plymouth Road near the hotel. Our room was comfortable and clean, although the hotel hallways were a little "tired" and could use some freshening.

The hotel staff was very accomodating to us and were extremely helpful during a very busy time for them. The hotel was booked full with Nascar race and wedding parties booking hotel rooms as well as reception areas. We were able to get shuttles to and from Main Campus of U of Michigan whenever we wanted so car rental was unnecessay. The room facing the swimming pool was especially nice, including sliding mirrored closet doors and round table and two chairs not found in the room across the hall. A small refrigerator would have been a nice addition for left overs from the restaurant and to keep beverages cool. All in all it was a great experience at a reasonable price.

Check in was a breeze. The pool didn't look as inviting as we hoped but they gave us $20 towards breakfast as part of the hotel cost. When we went to the dining room, there were a lot of little league baseball players and parents so the place was packed and really busy. The servers were very busy so this busboy stepped up and cleaned the table and gave us menu. We haven't seen anybody move that fast. Anything you asked for, he brought it out in few seconds. It was so refreshing to see such a hard worker since you don't see that anymore anywhere. It was a very pleasant experience.

This was great value, and not a single disappointment other than the fact that two months before our stay, we had to change plans, limiting our four night stay to three. the hotel absolutely refused to refund the fourth night. mind you, this was during the U of M graduation time and they would probably have filled the room anyway, but two months notice is a lengthy notice and their policy seems quite harsh.

I was impressed with this hotel. I travel frequently with business and am accustomed to staying in 4-5 star hotels. This was a personal trip for my daughter to visit U of Michigan and all of the other hotels were sold out due to an international swim meet in town. It's been several years since I've stayed at a Holiday Inn. My past experiences would have me rank HI as a low-budget hotel, but this HI clearly has made a cut above the standard HI. Great Service, Great Room, Great Value. I'd stay again without hesitation.

We booked a last minute trip to AA and Holiday Inn had a very good rate. The last time we stayed in AA, we stayed at Days Inn and it was HORRIBLE. We decided to try Holiday Inn and it was GREAT. The service was friendly and attentive, the room was much better than we thought it would be (especially the bathroom), and it was pretty quiet considering how many people were in the building. It was also nice that the workout center was open late. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Nice hotel, a bit dated interior but ok. I have been staying in Novi on business trips earlier, this hotel has more "soul" than the one in Novi. Easy check -in, good breakfast buffet, good exercise room, and there is a pool. The less good: TV remote almost worked.

Great staff, even in restaurant. Comfortable rooms. Great location for those visiting U of MI Norh Campus or Main Campus (with a car). The price is right. The only obvious problem was that the carpets were shabby, so it looked a little dark. Perfectly fine and easy.

We had a very pleasant stay from check-in to check-out. Staff was friendly, rooms were very clean and king size bed was comfortable. Has a very conveniently attached sports bar with excellent food. We
plan to go back and stay again next year for the MIS races!

We Will Go Back. The hotel was nice, clean and comfortable. The night we stayed, there was a live blues band playing. Our only complaint was the bed. It was ok, but not all that comfy. Still not enough to deter us from going back. We've already decided when we take the kids. we'll stay there.

Happy Traveler
Only a one night stay but couldn't believe how quiet our first floor room was, even though there were a couple of events taking place. The king bed was very comfortable (what a surprise). Very nice to have a restaurant/bar off the comfy and clean lobby.
